Aeris Atmos AI Dive Computer Review
Aeris Atmos AI
Aeris is a relatively new dive equipment manufacturer that produces high quality, affordable equipment for the average sport diver.
This company started making SCUBA gear in 1998 and they’ve built a strong following in a short amount of time.
One of Aeris’s core principles is improving on current technologies and I think they achieved that goal as far as the Atmos AI dive computer is concerned.
Here’s some more information on the Atmos AI dive computer.
Aeris Atmos AI – Overview
The Atmos AI is an air integrated computer (What? You thought AI meant artificial intelligence?). It has a pretty basic layout that displays critical information like your depth, air pressure, etc.
It’s also a streamlined computer so you can clip it onto your buoyancy compensator without feeling like you’re dragging a brick through the water.
Overall, it’s a good all-round dive computer for basic or advanced divers who don’t plan on venturing out of the usual sport diving parameters.
Aeris Atmos AI – Features
True to the Aeris philosophy, the Atmos AI is a feature rich dive computer.
The first thing I look for in any dive computer is Nitrox compatibility and the Atmos AI has it. You can program any mix between 21% and 50%. That’s perfect for 98% of all divers and 100% of all sport divers.
The Atmos AI also predicts how much longer your air will last given your current consumption rate. It’s kinda fun to mess with this feature by slowing your breathing rate to see how long you can get your air to last.
The computer also gives you
a maximum dive time based on your depth. The overall maximum dive time displayed is the lesser of your time based on depth or time based on air consumption.
Another nice feature on the Atmos AI is automatic activation. You can activate the computer manually but if you forget, it will activate itself when you hit the water. It’s a great feature because nothing is worse than looking at your computer halfway through your dive and realizing you forgot to turn it on.
In addition, the Aeris Atmos AI gives you visual and auditory alerts for both reminders and warning signals so you don’t get too wrapped up in your dive and find yourself in a dangerous situation.
The only “bad” feature on this dive computer is the price tag. The Aeris AI dive computer is around $825 but if you want a great dive computer with a lot of feature, you have to be willing to pay for it.
If you plan on doing a couple dives a year at vacation destinations, then this dive computer isn’t for you.
It’s too pricey to be an occasional accessory.
However, divers who dive Nitrox and make 10+ dives a year will get enough value from the Aeris Atmos AI dive computer to make it a smart investment.
Since the computer’s algorithm is more accurate than dive tables, divers can dive more often and stay down longer than if they follow traditional dive tables.
