Aeris Compass Module Review

Aeris Compass Module

In 1998 a new SCUBA equipment manufacturer came on the scene. This manufacturer decided they were going to make the most feature rich and technologically advanced equipment available while still being affordable to the average sport diver.

Aeris’s philosophy is evident in everything they do. Even the compass module seems to have more features than the competition.

Here’s a little more information about the Aeris Compass Module.

Aeris Compass Module - Overview

Unfortunately the compass is a forgotten accessory. If a diver has one at all, it’s because it came with their pressure gauge or dive computer.

But every diver should have a compass and know how to use it.

Compasses are vital for navigating anchor dives and beach dives. They can even be useful for drift dives if you need to locate a unique feature.

Aeris is a company that understands the value of a compass. Most companies just put out a compass as cheaply as possible, but Aeris goes the extra mile and makes a compass that’s actually worth buying.

Aeris Compass Module – Features

Aeris Compass Module Most people consider a compass to be just a compass with one as good as the next, but there are differences that make one compass better than another.

For example, did you know that you need a different compass in the southern hemisphere than you do in the northern hemisphere?

You do and Aeris makes a different compass for divers in Florida than the ones in Australia.

The Aeris compass uses a proprietary design to make sure the needle has a smooth and accurate movement. If you’ve ever had a cheap compass that took forever to catch up to the slightest direction change, you can definitely appreciate this feature.

The compass also uses a special glow material to absorb light faster and glow longer than cheaper versions. The Aeris compass module has a high quality bezel and you can take a bearing from either the top or the side of the compass.

Aeris offers their compass module in several different versions.

You can buy a wrist mounted compass (my favorite), a compass that mounts on your BC inflator hose, a compass you can clip to a retractable lanyard, or just the basic compass module that you can fit into the boot of your pressure gauge. However you carry it, you need a compass.

Aeris Compass Module - Who Should Buy It?

The only people that don’t need a compass are divers who ALWAYS follow a divemaster during their dive. Mind you, even then it’s a good idea to have a compass in case you get lost…or your divemaster does.

There’s a reason basic navigation is taught in beginning diver classes. It’s an essential skill and it could save your life. Aside from your basic diving equipment, there are three things you should always carry: a dive knife, a safety sausage, and a compass.

Compasses come in a range of sizes and a range of prices. You could go with a cheap option, but you’ll regret it. Try the Aeris compass module instead.
