Aeris CompuMask Review
Aeris Compumask
Aeris hasn’t been around that long, but all manufacturers have to start somewhere, right? While the company has only been around since 1998, they’ve done a good job of living up to their philosophy of producing feature rich equipment and improving on new technologies.
Aeris offers a full line of equipment that ranges from mundane dive accessories to dive gear that’s so cool that you’d think Q designed it for James Bond.
The CompuMask is one of Aeris’s Q inspired designs.
Here’s some more information on the mother of all dive masks.
Aeris Compumask – Overview
In an attempt to create the coolest dive accessory known to man, Aeris decided to find out what would happen if a jet fighter and a dive mask had a love child.
The result was the CompuMask. It’s a dive mask with a heads-up display.
Ridiculously awesome dive masks don’t come cheap, however. Expect to pay around $1400 for the luxury of not having to look down at your dive gauge.
Its powers of attracting the opposite sex have yet to be tested but for $1400, we’ll assume it’s a babe magnet.
Aeris Compumask – Features
The Aeris CompuMask would be awesome even if it only displayed your depth and dive time, but it does a lot more than that.
The CompuMask is air-integrated. The mask comes with a transmitter that you screw into the high pressure port on your first stage that wirelessly transmits your tank pressure to your CompuMask. But wait! There’s more!
The CompuMask is also Nitrox compatible. In case you were wondering, the CompuMask doesn’t automatically detect your Nitrox mix (that feature would earn it a place in the dive equipment hall of fame), but you can program it with a mix between 21% and 50%.
Like all good dive computers, the CompuMask does more than just display your stats. It gives audible alarms. Once you hear the alarm and look at your heads-up display, you can silence the alarm manually.
Other features include an alarm that sounds when you approach your safety stop depth, maximum dive time display, based on the lesser of your air time or maximum safe dive time at your current depth and automatic altitude compensation.
Finally, the Aeris CompuMask isn’t just for SCUBA divers. It also has a free dive mode that displays your depth and time. It’s also the first dive computer that can track your nitrogen tissue loading when you’re free diving so you can safely switch between SCUBA diving and free diving in the same day.
