Aeris Sport BC Review
Aeris Sport BC
When you think of high quality equipment, names like Scubapro and Mares immediately come to mind. Those brands have been around a long time and have built a big name for themselves.
I’m willing to bet that in 20 years time, Aeris will be just as well known.
Aeris started making dive equipment about 10 years ago and they’re quickly making a name for themselves as a manufacturer of dependable dive equipment.
Today the Aeris line has something for divers of almost every skill level. The Aeris Sport is one of their entry-level buoyancy compensators.
Here’s a little more information about it.
Aeris Sport BC – Overview
The Aeris Sport is the quintessential beginner’s buoyancy compensator. Aeris made this baby durable enough to handle a lot of abuse and for that reason; you can find the Sport BC in many dive shop rental departments.
You might think that a beginner’s BC wouldn’t have many features on it and you’d be right – if we were talking about some other dive manufacturer.
One of Aeris’s core beliefs is that good dive equipment should have good features on it and they follow this belief even when they make equipment for beginning divers.
Here are some of the features that come on the Aeris Sport buoyancy compensator.
Aeris Sport BC – Features
Personally, I think weight belts are outdated. There’s little reason to wear one of these diving relics except in a few isolated circumstances. Apparently Aeris feels the same way because they made this entry level BC weight integrated.
The Aeris Sport Buoyancy Compensator has an EZ-lock weight integration system that can hold up to 20 pounds (9 kilos). That’s more than enough for the conditions most beginning divers face. You can drop your weights in an emergency by pulling the tab on each side of your buoyancy compensator.
This BC also has a depth compensating cummerbund. As you descend, your wetsuit compresses and your once secure BC can become loose. The depth compensating cummerbund will make sure your BC stays comfortably tight.
You can also get an optional Silverjack BC knife. I’d go ahead and get it since you want at least one dive knife anyway.
Finally, the Aeris Sport Buoyancy Compensator uses a contoured air cell that allows you to stay in almost any position in the water. It also allows you to inflate your BC without getting the body squeeze that you get from some cheaper buoyancy compensators.
Aeris Sport BC - Who Should Buy It?
The Aeris Sport BC is a great first buoyancy compensator for any diver. At under $400, it’s inexpensive and has all the features a new diver needs.
Even advanced divers can use this BC as long as they’re not doing anything too technical. The Sport BC is great for open water diving on coral reefs, but not good for the technical stuff like wreck diving or cavern diving.
In short, the Aeris Sport BC is designed for the recreational diver who does most of their diving in destination spots like Florida, the Caribbean, Great Barrier Reef, etc.
