Aeris XR2 Dive Computer Review

Aeris XR2 Dive Computer

In 1998, Aeris started manufacturing dive equipment with one goal in mind: to make feature rich dive equipment that improved on current technologies.

I think they’ve done a pretty darn good job of achieving that goal.

Aeris offers a full line of dive equipment geared toward the average sport diver. All of their equipment is very reasonably priced considering the features they have.

Nowhere is this cost to value ratio more evident than in Aeris’s line of dive computers. The Aeris XR-2 Dive Computer is the perfect example of what I’m talking about.

Here’s some more information on the XR-2:

Aeris XR2 Dive Computer – Overview

I hesitate to say that the XR-2 is your basic dive computer because it’s not really all that basic. I mean, it looks like your average dive computer but the features available will surprise you.

Perhaps one reason why I’d say it’s your basic dive computer is that it’s so inexpensive. The module itself only costs about $400 and you can get a 3 gauge set for about $550. It’s a great deal.

The unit is also user friendly. If you can use a dive watch, you can use the XR-2 dive computer.

Aeris XR2 Dive Computer – Features

Aeris XR2 Dive Computer The Aeris XR-2 has 3 modes to choose from: Air, Nitrox and Gauge.

In gauge mode the computer just tells you how deep you are and how long you’ve been diving.

Air mode functions like a full-fledged dive computer when you’re diving 21% oxygen.

Nitrox mode will track your dives on an enriched air mixture between 22% and 50%.

Very few divers will need a dive computer that tracks anything more complicated than that.

The Aeris XR2 also displays a dynamic “Dive Time Remaining” number that changes as you change depth. The oversized digits make it easy to see this information at a glance.

Another nice feature is the automatic safety stop prompt. When you reach 15 feet (5m), an audible and visual alarm goes off and a countdown clock pops up and counts down your stop for 3 minutes. It’s a good reminder for both beginning and advanced divers.

If you dive at different altitudes, you’ll be happy to know that the Aeris XR-2 has an automatic altitude compensator so you don’t have to worry about getting a different computer or dealing with altitude dive tables when you’re not at sea level.

Finally, the Aeris XR-2 will log up to 24 dives for you so you can download them to your PC later. This is one of my favorite features because I view dive logs as paperwork and I really don’t want to do paperwork when I’m trying to relax.

Aeris XR2 Dive Computer - Who Should Buy It?

This is a great dive computer for both basic and advanced divers.

It’s everything you need in a dive computer unless you decided to learn more technical forms of diving. The only downside to the Aeris XR-2 is that it’s not an air integrated computer.

If you want a computer that tracks your air consumption, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Otherwise the Aeris XR2 is a great choice.
