Apeks XTX100 Review
Apeks XTX100
Divers are freakishly adamant about their brand of dive equipment. Certain brands build this cult-like following that’s so strong that divers will get into fist fights to prove that their brand is the best one (Trust me. I’ve seen it.).
But what are these super-brands and what makes them so good that divers will literally fight for them?
In a word: reliability.
When it comes to dive equipment – especially technical diving equipment – reliability is the key factor in determining the best and no manufacturer has been proven reliable under as strenuous conditions as Apeks.
Here’s some information on the Apeks XTX100 one of their flagship regulators.
Apeks XTX100 Overview
The Apeks XTX100 is used by the most extreme technical divers in the world for one reason: it works without fail.
This regulator has seen the harshest diving conditions on the planet and it still worked like a champ.
The Apeks XTX100 features multiple user-adjustable settings which makes it a versatile regulator for a variety of diving conditions. Whether you’re a sport diver who wants unfailing stability or a technical diver who needs a regulator that will perform in conditions that would annihilate the average regulator, the Apeks XTX100 has you covered.
Apeks XTX100 Features
The Apeks XTX100 is a balanced regulator that delivers the same easy breath of air at 300 feet (90m)as it does at 30 feet (9m).
This regulator was designed with the technical diver in mind and features 4 medium pressure ports for your second stage, octopus, inflator hose and optional accessory as well as two high pressure ports for your pressure gauge or air-integrated dive computer and an optional redundant gauge or computer.
The first stage is environmentally dry sealed to prevent freezing which makes the Apeks XTX100 a great choice for deep and cold water dives.
The second stage of the Apeks XTX100 comes with all the bells and whistles a diver could ever want.
There’s an adjustable cracking control so you can adjust the effort needed to get the regulator to deliver air and a venturi assist control to help you control whether or not you want the regulator to “feed” you air once the cracking pressure is reached.
The second stage is also pneumatically balanced so each breath is an easy one.
In short, the Apeks XTX100 is everything you could ever want from a regulator.
Apeks XTX100 Who Should Buy It?
Who should buy the Apeks XTX100 regulator?
Anyone with a pulse…unless they happen to be on a budget.
The Apeks XTX100 is a top-of-the line regulator and it commands a high price - usually around $575 - $650 for the first and second stages alone.
For a technical diver, that’s a steal for a high-end regulator but for the average sport diver, it’s a luxury that’s on par with buying a Ferrari to get you to work every day. It’s nice, but unnecessary.
However, the reliability of the Apeks XTX100 is something that both the Sport diver and the technical diver can use.
Equipment malfunctions are blissfully rare with the Apeks XTX100.
