Apeks XTX50 Regulator Review

Apeks XTX50 review.

Apeks is one of the most respected names in diving equipment and has been for over 35 years. They say they have one goal: to make the best diving equipment in the world. Many divers would argue that they’ve achieved that goal.

Apeks make a great line of regulators that run the gamut from bare bones basic to tricked out technical and right in the middle of that spectrum is the Apeks XTX50.

Here’s some more information on Apeks’s entry-level technical regulator.

Apeks XTX50 Overview

At around $550, the Apeks XTX50 gives divers a lot of bang for their buck. This regulator has all of the features that beginning divers recognize from the XTX20 and XTX40 models with several substantial enhancements that make the Apeks XTX50 an outstanding choice for more advanced divers.

When you’re ready to hang up your basic diving regulator set and slip into something a little more powerful, the Apeks XTX50 will be waiting for you.

Apeks XTX50 Features

Apeks XTX50 Regulator The Apeks XTX50 is an entry level technical regulator and a bargain at $550.

The first stage features the standard 4 medium pressure ports for your second stage, BC inflator hose, octopus and optional accessory as well as two high pressure ports for your air pressure gauge or air integrated computer.

The first stage is balanced so it will breathe easy at deeper depths when the air becomes denser and environmentally sealed so it can withstand colder temperatures.

The second stage is also balanced for easy breathing and includes an adjustable cracking control so you can control the amount of effort it takes to draw a breath. That’s a great feature to have in a strong current since heavy currents have a nasty habit of depressing your purge valve if the cracking pressure is too low.

There’s also a venture assist on the second stage to make breathing easy once you reach your set cracking pressure and unlike the XTX40, a wide exhaust is standard so your bubbles won’t obstruct your vision as much.

If you’re planning on doing some heavy-duty diving, this is the regulator for you.

Apeks XTX50 Who Should Buy It?

The Apeks XTX50 is a bit of overkill for divers who want to spend their time drifting over coral reefs in 80 degree (27 degrees C) water, but diver that want the flexibility to do shallow dives, deep dives, cavern dives and cold water dives will love the Apeks XTX50.

It can handle all of those diving conditions and then some.

If you have any aspirations of learning deep diving or cavern/wreck diving, the Apeks XTX50 is the regulator for you. This regulator will also handle the cold waters of the North Pacific coast like a champ.

In addition, the dry-sealed first stage makes post-dive maintenance much easier since you can just spray the first stage down and you don’t have to worry about soaking it (don’t forget to make sure your dust cap is on!).

The Apeks XTX50 is a great regulator set for serious beginners who want a regulator that they can use throughout their education or intermediate/advanced divers who want to take on more demanding dives.
