Citizen Promaster Divers Watches Review

Citizen Promaster Divers Watches

Citizen is a Japanese watch making company that’s led the industry for almost a century.

It’s no surprise that they’re the ones who jumped into the SCUBA industry with watches that can be worn under the water in the morning and at the dinner table in the evening.

The Promaster series in particular has a sort of functional elegance about it that is unmatched by any dive watch in the industry – even other Citizen watches.

Here’s some more information about the Citizen Promaster series of dive watches.

Citizen Promaster Divers Watches Overview

Citizen Promaster Divers Watch Most dive watches are little more than standard waterproof watches with a bezel slapped on to help you keep track of your dive time (that is, if you don’t bump it).

Other dive watches, like the Citizen Aqualand series, are half dive computer and half wristwatch. They look nice, but they’re more “go to the bar” nice rather than “go to the club” nice.

The Citizen Promaster series falls somewhere in between these two extremes.

The Citizen Promaster watches come in several different variations with a range of features.

They start at around $175 and can go well over $1000 depending on the model you chose. It doesn’t matter what kind of diving you do, there’s a Promaster watch that’ll work for you.

Citizen Promaster Divers Watches – Specs

The features available on the Citizen Promaster series depend on which watch you chose. For example, the bottom-of-the-line Citizen Promaster Divers Watch, is basically a Citizen watch with a black rubber strap and a unidirectional bezel that’s water resistant to around 660 feet.

On the other hand, one of the top-of-the-line Promaster watches keeps time using a signal from the atomic clock in your time zone, has a stainless steel wristband, uses the Eco-Drive technology to charge the watch and has a 6 month power reserve, and has a host of other features.

You can also find Promaster watches that are designed more for running than they are for diving and Promaster watches that are designed for ridiculously deep diving.

For example, the Citizen NH6931-06E is water resistant to 1,000 meters and has a helium escape valve to protect the watch when ascending from deep dives.

There’s literally a Promaster watch for every diver at every skill level.

Citizen Promaster Divers Watches Who Should Buy It?

Perhaps I gave this one away when I said “There’s literally a Promaster watch for every diver at every skill level.”

Anyone looking for a high quality dive watch should consider a Promaster watch, at least, all the guys should.

The Promaster watches look more “normal” than the Aqualand series without sacrificing too many features. You’re not going to find a watch/dive computer in the Promaster series as you would in the Aqualand series, but you can still find a watch that will display your depth and remember the maximum depth for your dive.

In short, if you’re a diver first and a socialite second, you should go with the Aqualand series. But if diving is your hobby and not your life, you should go with the Promaster series.
