Uwatec dive computers have you got one?

Once upon a time, Uwatec Worldwide was its own entity, that was known for making exceptional dive computers.

It all started back in the 1980’s when Uwatec released their Aladin dive computer; a line that’s still in existence today, though greatly updated. Today Uwatec has merged with Scubapro and they’ve become Scubapro’s dive computer powerhouse.

Here are some of the products you can expect from Uwatec.

Uwatec – Aladin Dive Computer

This is the original Uwatec dive computer. The two newest additions to the Aladin line are the Aladin Tec 2G and the Aladin Prime.

The Aladin Tec 2G is a multi-gas dive computer that can program two different nitrox mixes for a dive.

The Aladin Prime, on the other hand, can only program one nitrox mix. But it looks a lot like a wrist watch.

Uwatec Galileo Dive Computers

Right now there are two computers in the Galileo line.

They are the Sol and the Terra. Uwatec calls the line Galileo because they believe the breakthroughs in this line of dive computers are as radical as Galileo’s breakthroughs in the 17th century.

While that statement may be a little too much marketing fluff, the features of the Galileo line are impressive.

For example, the Galileo line of dive computers feature a heart rate monitor. There are a couple of reasons that this information could be helpful. First of all, your absorption of nitrogen will increase with increased activity so knowing your heart rate will allow you to relax when you exert yourself too much. However if you’re on a shallow dive and nitrogen absorption isn’t a concern, knowing your heart rate can help you get a cardiovascular exercise. Either way it’s a win-win.

Other features include a digital compass and the usual benefits that come with dive computers. The Sol is the flagship of the Galileo line but the Terra is upgradeable.

Uwatec Smart dive Computers

The Smart Com is an air integrated dive computer that can handle nitrox mixtures between 21 and 100%. In addition, it can store up to 90 dives.

The Smart Z is a hoseless air integrated computer that can program nitrox mixtures from 21 to 100%. This wrist mounted computer can even handle information from high pressure tanks up to 4250 PSI.

Of course, computers aren’t the only thing that Uwatec makes. You can also get digital depth gauges, compasses and your everyday dive consoles.

Moreover, Uwatec also offers software for their dive computers that can be loaded onto your home PC, laptop or Palm organizer.

In the 80’s, there were few companies that could measure up to the Uwatec name. Now that Uwatec has paired up with Scubapro, that number is even fewer.

Uwatec offers top-of-the-line dive computers that can handle a variety of different circumstances. One of my favorite things about Uwatec dive computers is that virtually all of them are ready to use with nitrox. That’s a great feature when you plan on doing multiple dives on a vacation.

Whether you’re looking to get some more bottom time or you want a state-of-the-art computer to log your dives for you, Uwatec has what you need.
